People who are fond of mushrooms should eschew a bright red one with yellow spots. Recently one of these was picked at Henderson and sent to the curator of the Auckland Museum (Mr Gilbert Archey), who sent it down to Wellington to the mycologist of the Department of Agriculture (Mr G. H. Cunningham) for identification. Mr Cunningham says that the fungus is an agaricus, called “Aminita muscarina,” one of the most deadly of the poisonous species. It is not a native of New Zealand, and was probably introduced from Europe in grass or other seeds.
