THE PLEA OF MINORITY. TO APPLY FOR DISCHARGE. The adjourned meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of William Jarvis, store keeper, of Dunedin, was held in the office of the Official Assignee (Mr E.‘ W Cave) on Thursday afternoon. The Official Assignee presided. Mr W. L Moore, who appeared for the bankrupt, said Jarvis was at present earn ing a smill wage at canvassing, and coun sel suggested that he could liquidate his debts at the rate of 15s per week. Bank rupt was prepared to supplement this by 50 per cent, of any increase in his earnings until £IOO was paid off. Mr Milne expressed the opinion that Jar vis should pay 20s in the £. He had taken advantage of his minority to get o-‘ of paying nis debts. Mr Moore remarked that if Messrs Milne and Bremner insisted on pressing his client he would advise him to make immediate application for his discharge. The merchants had taken a risk in granting credit to a young fellow who did not look 21 They should be discouraged in such a practice. To this Mr Milne retorted that if that were the way Mr Moore looked at the matter the case had better go before the court. The Official Assignee said that it would be to the advantage of all the parties if the judge were allowed to decide the case Mr Milne agreed to this, and the meeting was concluded on the understanding that the bankrupt should apply to the court for his discharge either at the August or November sittings.
