ALLEGED THEFT OF GEESE.
BUSINESS MAN CHARGED. DANXEVIRKE. June 28 The story of a shooting party from Dannevirke, which on Sunday, May 16. tried *ts skill at Oringi on hare and wound up by chasing geese and taking them alive and dead, was told before three justices of the peace to-day. Clifford Harris Thompson, a well-known local business man. being the defendant. Ho was charged with committing the theft, of five geese, valued at £5, the property of Daniel Cullinane, and also with having stolen one goose, valued at £l. Defendant had expressed regret for what had occurred and the sura of £5 had been paid aa compensation. He took the blame for the actions of the other members of the party, as he had led them to understand he had permission to take the geese. Defendant, in his evidence, stated he believed from what had transpired on a previous occasion with one of Xtollinane’s brotheis that he and the members of the party were within their rights in taking the geese. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial at tho Supreme Court, bail in £SO and one surety of a like amount was allowed. ____________
