CENSUS FIGURES.

THE PROVINCIAL DISTRICTS WELLINGTON. June JO. Further census figures, by districts instead of towns, show that Auckland is much the largest province, and now contains 32 per cent of the total population. The details are as follows:

The increase in the population of Auckland is 55,307, Wellington 24,800, Canterbury 14,712, Otago 12,690, and the total increase for the Dominion 125,471; To this really has to be added 4236 for halfcastes, who are now reckoned as Maoris. A point of some interest, which is not without its important side, is the sex ratio of the population in the various districts. All the northern districts have a greater male population than female. Auckland’s male majority amounts to 14,800, Hawke’s Bay’s to 2000', Taranaki’s to 3000, and Wellington’s to 7000. In the South Island -matters are not quite the same. Marlborough has a male majority of 1000, Nelson of 2400, Westland of 800, and Southland of 2800. On the other hand, m Canterbury there are 2200 more females than males, and in Otago about an equal number.
