A particularly fine crop of turnips was grown this season by Mr P. Bellew, Otama. Four turnips brought to Gore from this farm on Thursday by Mr W. Cox, weighed approximately 1001 b, the heaviest turning the scale at 2621 b. These samples were said to be in no way exceptional compared with the remainder of the crop, which it was estimated would average from 60 to 80 tons to the acre. The crop was grown on river flat land from seed which Mr Bellew has used for several seasons post.
