A resident of Tim&ru, who, in his youth was an enthusiastic boxer, remarked the other day that all his enthusiasm for personally “ngaping in boxing had met a sudden death wheij he visited Boston (says the Herald). M a boxing school there he had met a Swedish girl, 23 years of age, and she had asked him to have a round with her. With a gallantry befitting his years and his race, he had “scorned to hit. a woman," but after much persuasion he was induced to change his mind, in order to oblige the girl, who complained that her muscles were stiff and she wanted to “loosen them up." Under these circumstances hf had entered the hempen enclosure determined to deal gently with his opponent; but he had not been in the ring five minutes when he was hard up against the ropes “seeing all the stars in the heavens." He promptly threw in the towel, and with the loss of his pride he had also lost any desire again to put on the gloves. He still liked to watch a good fight, but participation in one had no appeal for him *ow. Twelve bankruptcies were notified in last week's issue of the New Zealand Gasette. Nine of the number were in the North Island.
