UNSUSPECTED WITNESSES.

MOTORIST CUTS CORNER. TWO MAGISTRATES PRESENT. (From Oca Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, May 26. A defendant who appeared at the Police Court this morning was a trifle unlucky when ho cut a corner in his motor-car right under the noses of two magistrates. This morning he renewed acquaintance with one of them—-Mr F K. Hunt—when ho appeared to answer a charge of dangerous driving. When the case was called Mr Hunt said: “Oh. yes! This is the man who cut across in front of Mr Poyntcn and myself. He is fined ”

“Just a minute,” interrupted Mr A. Brown, who appeared for the defence. He said the defendant came up on his right side until he came to the corner where he had to move over to his wrong side to make way for a motor lorry.” Mr Hunt: The lorry must have been underground, because I did not see it.” “Ho was pushed on to hts wrong sido, and blew his horn twice,” continued counsel.

“I did not hear his blow his horn,” said Mr Hunt. Ho will be fined £l and costs.” “Does your Worship ask for witness’s expenses?” was Mr Brown’s parting shot amidst laughter, in which defendant could not refrain from joining.
