Children’s recitals are always interesting, there being something about the performances of young people which makes a wide appeal. On Thursday evening last, one specially attractive was given, when the pianoforte pupils of Miss Eva Aslin and the elocutionary pupils of Miss Reno Aslin combined to give a delightful little concert in the Bristol Concert Chamber, and to a full audience presented some excellent items. One or two of the pianoforte solos were rather too difficult for the ability of their players, and two at least of the reciters had their voices pitched in far too high a key. But, on the whole, the performance was splendid, and much credit should go to the Misses Aslin for their training and the choice of subjects they had selected for repetition. The opening duet, '''The Birdies’ Ball,” played by Phyllis and Mavis Ruston, was a pleasing item, as was also "II Bacio,

played by Christina Beirn and Ethel Kichan. Chaminade’s "Pierrette” and Moskowski’s "Valse Brillante,” played by Winnie Hay and Rema Todd, and Christie Mallocli and Isobel Philip respectively, in tl>e second half were also both well executed. Others who played were May Scofield, Winnih Todd, Isobel Philip, and Alison Polwarth. Among the elocutionary items there were some marked successes. In the first half, Edna Stone gave a vivid interpretation of "The Erl King,” while in the second half there were several outstanding performers. David Robertson’s telling of "How the Rhinoceros Got Its Skin” was a 6heer delight; Elsie Harlow's reading of "The Doll's House” was Tendered with force and pathos; Edna Frew recited "The Listeners” with grave impressiveness, and "Who’s Afraid,” a recitation given by Mavi* Robertson, was the star turn of the evening. Maud Townsend, Olga Johnston, Phyllis Ruston, Christie Malloch, James Leckie and David Sherriff also read or recited with ability. A pretty little play, "The Little Pink Lady," acted by Dora Leckie, Eileen Murn, Mavis Robertson, Elise Harlow, and Olga Johnston, ended an enjoyable evening. Mr ar.d Mrs C. R.
