DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS’ SOCIETY.

A meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Competitions Society was held in th* secretary's board room on Thursday night, Mr J. H. Walker pießiding. That choirs consist of not more than 25, and not lesa than 16 voices. Choirs to consist of bon fide employees of firms, but it to be permissible to include not more than four outside members in a choir, provided these outside members are a husband or wife, father or mother, brother or sister, or son or daughter of a bona fide employee of such firms. Firms are permitted to obtain an outside conductor and an accompan* ist.

The following test pieces have been chosen for this year’s contest: (a) " Hail! > Smiling Morn” (Spofforth); (8) “In This Hour of Softened Splendour” (Pinsuiti); . both accompanied.—lt was resolved that the J prize money for this contest should be:! / First prize £ls, second prize £lO, and third prize £5.

The Shakespeare Club wrote offering »j special prize of £2 2s for the highest mark# '■ gained in the Shakespearean recitations.— * Received with thanks.

The Dunedin Burns Club wrote offering to j donate £6 6s to the prize fund on the same | lines as last year.—Received.

The Secretary reported that Messrs K. j Hudson and Co. had again offered to donate ; a scholarship in the vocal section.—The secretary was Instructed to convey to Messrs R.' Hudson and Co the committee’s appreciation of their continued interest in the work of the society. It was resolved to make a special effort to obtain entries in the impromptu speech compelition this year, and it was decided* to offer prizes of £5 ss, £3 3s, and £1 Is for this competition A large amount of detail business wai transacted, and the question of the appoint- , ment of judges was referred to the various *ub-committeeß to report.
