SOUTHLAND POWER BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING. (Fbom Oub Own Cobrebpondent.) INVERCARGILL, May 25. The annual meeting of the Southland Electric Power Board was held this morning, when Mr A. W. Rodger was unanimously re-elected chairman, on the motion of the Hon. A. F. Hawke, seconded by Mr A. le H. Hoyles. In returning thanks for his re-election, Mr Rodger said he appreciated the honour that had again been conferred on him,

and he would do his best in the future as in the past. Mr Rodger welcomed back all the old members of the board who had offered themselves for re-election. He also welcomed the new members, Messrs T. Golden, P. Arnott, and W. Hinchey. Thj Secretary reported that the money received from April 1 to May 22 totalled £22,693 ss, which was made up as follows:—Sale of current, £10,049 14s 9d; refund of advances (principal, interest, and exchange), £10,298 2s lid; showroom sales, £370 3s 8d; rates, £1228 14s lOd; miscellaneous, £746 8s lid. The secretary stated that the overdraft power fund was £38,039 19s 6d, and the amount standing at the credit of the special loan £14,771 10s 6d. The following information was submitted by the Committee of Control: — The consumers’ premises wired and tested to April 30, 1926, totalled 6040. This included 50 new consumers’ premises wired and tested during tfie month, but took no account of 40 extensions to premises already connected, which had also been wired and inspected. During the same period 159 new connections had been made, making a total of 5796 consumers now connected to the board’s lines. Thirty-tw T o more ranges and 21 motors had been installed, making a total of 585 ranges and 889 motors now in operation. The peak at Monowai had risen to 2630 kw., while the connected load, exclusive of Bluff, Winton, Gore, and a portion of South Invercargill, was 12,645 kw. It was anticipated that the Invercargill load would come on to the lines on June 1, and the peak load would then be 4010 kw.
