IMPERIAL WAR GRAVES.

ENDOWMENT FUND TRUSTEE.?. LONDON, January 26. Preliminary steps towards the establishment of the Endowment Fund of £5,000,000, which it is the intention of the Government, in conjunction with the dominion governments, to set up for the permanent maintenance of the war cemeteries, have been completed. The Imperial War Graves Commission anounces it has appointed the following trustees of the fund:— General Sir Herbert Lawrence, a managing partner of Messrs Glyn, Mills and Co., the bankers, and a member of the Coal Commission. He served in France during the war, and was Chief of the Ntaff at. General Headquarters from 1918. Mr E. R. Peacock, a former director of the Bank of England, and believed to be the only Canadian to have held such a position. He is a partner of Messrs Baring Brothers and Co., Ltd. Major-general Sir Fabian Ware, the permanent vice-chairman of the Imperial War Graves Commission. The £5,000,000 will, it is understood, bo provided by contributions from the various countries of the Empire in proportion to the number of graves of their dead. It is to be used for the purpose oi maintenance only, and the funds still required for constructional work will be supplied by annual grants.
