Consequent on the river steamer traffic showing a loss of approximately £BOO oil the year’s operations, the Clutha River Board has decided to curtail the service to once a week (reports the Free Press), extra trips to be run as often as payable cargo offered. A suggestion was also put forward that the steamer be laid up for two months in winter, and it was agreed to, provided the quantity of freight offering showed no increase when that season of the year arrived The trouble seems to be a lessening of the down river freight owing to the farmers going out o{ grain growing.
