LICENSING ELECTION, RIVALRY IN OHINKMURI. THAMES, March 3. Twenty-two candidates hove been nomitt* ated for the live seats on the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee. The oondidates include the Mayors of Raeroa and Waihi, and representatives of the brewers and the prohibition party. Extraordinary interest is being shown ia the election, and there is strong rivalry among the country villages for the right to erect licensed houses, following on many years of no-lioense. The fact that it does not always take an experienced racegoer to pick winners t was fully demonstrated at tne Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting. Three ladies, novices at the subtle art of picking winners, were in attendance at the trotting meeting, and had the good fortune to pick eight winners. They are now offering to sell theif winning system to tho highest bidder.
