WOMAN INSPECTOR

MISS J. J. HETHERINGTON’S APPOINTMENT. THAMES, March 5. Miss Jessie I. Hetherington, M.A., whose appointment as first woman inspec tor of secondary schools for the Dominion has; been announced, is an ex-pupil of the Thames High School from which she con tinned her education at Prince Albert College, Auckland (now closed) prior to entering the Auckland University, where she gained her B.A. degree. On leaving the university, Miss Hether ington attended at Girton College, England, later studying at Cambridge Uni veisity and Trinity College. Dublin, where she gained the degree of Master of Arts. After holding an important educational post at Blackburn she became the princi pal of a Sydney educational institution, subsequently returning to New Zealand, aT'c accepting the post of lecturer to the Wellington Training College. Miss Hetherington is the author of a book on New Zealand in its political relationship with England, the second volume of which is in course of preparation. Up to the present there have been two inspectors for the Dominion secondary schools, but the Education Department recently decided to increase the number to four and has selected Miss Hetherington as one of the additional appointees.
