GASWORKS EXTENSIONS.

AN IMPORTANT REPORT. TENDERS ACCEPTED. At the last meeting of the Dunedin, City Council the gas section of the Trading Committee submitted an important report with regard to the extension of the gasworks. The report was as follows: Your committee begs to report being now! in a position to submit a recommendation on the tenders received for the proposed extensions to the gas manufacturing plant. Two tenders were received, the lowest being that from Messrs West’s Gas Improvement Company (Ltd.), of Manchester, England/ covering the supply and erection comploto in all details of the following plant:— (a) Complete installation of 24 vertical retorts of the latest model supplied and erected complete and nut into commission for the sura of £48,315 (bj An electrical lift for the sum of 1,654(c) Three waste heat boilers of the Gallowav type erected for the sura of ... ... 3,300 (d) For the construction of the necessary foundations for the whole of the foregoing plant for the sum Making a grand total of ...£62,847 The whole plant, including the foundapons. is guaranteed by the tenderers, and with regard particularly to the foundations the city engineer, after having be-n placed in possession of the fullest possible information as to the suggested design, reports that the tenderers are fully conversant with the nature of the problem they have to meet, and that every confidence may be placed in their guarantee and in the design of their expert advisers. Your committee therefore begs to recommend that the tender of Messrs West’s Gaa Improvement Company (Ltd.) to the total sum of £62,847, be accepted, subject to the tenderers completing the contract documents which are to cover the guarantee as the efficiency of tho plant and foundations, with a bond and penalty, to the satisfaction of the city solicitors. The adoption of the report was moved bv Cr W. A. Scott, chairman of the committee. The discussion was taken in committed and the motion for the adoption of tho report was carried.
