THE BISHOP’S PRAYER.

NEW FORM OF PASTORAL. MESSAGE BY POST-CARD. LONDON, January 7. It is usual for bishops nowadays to send New Year Pastorals to the clergy and people of their dioceses, and these are generally very weighty and seriously worded documents. This year the Bishop of St. Albans has been inspired to depart from this and to put his elevating thoughts in lighter and briefer form, and he has selected the postcard to carry his message. Dr Furse has had the following verso printed and circulated among the clergy of his diocese: Give me a good digestion. Lord, And also something to digest; Give mo a healthy body, Lord, And sense to keep it at its best. Give mo a healthy mind, good Lord, To keep the pure and good in sight, Which, seeing sin, is not appalled To find the way to set it right. Give mo a mind that is not bored, That does not whimper, whine, or sigh; Don’t let me worry overmuch ' About l>io fussy thing called “I.” Give me a sense of humour, Lord; Give mo the graco to see a joke, To get some happiness in life, And ptuu it on to othor folk.
