PROSECUTIONS AT GISBORNE. GISBORNE, February 26 Before Mr E C. Levvy. S.M., to-day Charles Croon was charged with street betting and with rwiblishing a double card, and was convicted on five counts. Arthur Owen pleaded guilty to two charges of street betting. Tho magistrate said the rases could not be treated lightly, as he believed that a great deal of business that came before tbe court was no doubt due to the illicit operations of men of the type of accused. On the first charge of street belting Croon would he fined £IOO, and on each of the others £2O On charges of publishing double cards Croon would alse he fined £2O on each Owen was fined £IOO on the first and £2O on the second charge.
