ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held on the 22nd in the Imperial Buildings. The following members were present: Messrs C. P. M. Butterworth (in the chair), Co e, Williams, Hutchison, Reid, Rutherford, Turner, White, Hawes, C. A. Wilson and Baker. The game and angling committees’ reports were adopted. . The angling committee’s report stated inter alia that a letter had been received from the secretary of the Gore District Anglers' Society notifying that a society had been formed with a membership of 100. The writer suggested that the Otago and Southland Societies should combine to erect a fish ladder on the Mataura River at the falls. The committee recommended that the Gore Society be asked to submit a plan and their suggestions on the proposal. Accounts amounting to £35 5s Id were passed for payment by the Finance Committee recommended that the rangers be allowed 3s a day meal allowance during the time they were engaged at the hatcheries.—Agreed to. A letter was received from Mr P. Aitken Paerau advising that Paradise duck were decreasing in numbers in the Styx Valley from Paerau to the head of the fiat. A motion was passed that the recommendations already sent on be amended and that in lieu of an open season for these birds a close season be observed in the Maniotcto district. A letter was received from Mr Jelly, chairman of the Cromwell Rod and Gun Club, recommending an extension of the season for quail from two months to three months. It was decided to notify Mr Jelly that the Society could not accede to his suggestion. A cable was received from Calcutta stating that the shipment of cliukor asked for would not be available in March. It was decided to make arrangements for a shipment to arrive in November. It was decided to buy a five scater Ford car for Ranger Duncan.
