At a coroner’s inquiry at Palmerston North on Wednesday morning into the death of an unnamed child, the dead body of which had allegedly beeu found on January 12 in a suit case carried by Hazel M'Namara, a single woman aged 23 years, employed as a domestic servant, the police stated the girl was arrested iust as she was leaving for Auck land, and at the police station admitted having given birth to a child two days previously, which had lived. The medical evidence stated the child had lived, and had been dead for a day or two when found. Death was probably due to hemorrhage, resulting from want of attention. No marks of violence were found A verdict was returned that the child i died from lack of proper attention M'Namara was then charged that, on or about January 19, she did kill her infaiA daughter.
