THE SCHOONER FRANCE.

NO ANXIETY FELT. AUCKLAND, February 27. No anxiety regarding the fate of the schooner France is felt by Mrs Beck, wife of Mr 11. Beck, the scientist, who is in charge of the bird survey being made by the ship. Mrs Beck; who is living in Auckland while her husband is in New Zeeland waters, says Hit she last heard from her husband on February 9. when the France was in Lyttelton. Although telegraphed, the message gave her the date of sailing as six days earlier. Mrs Beck states it was the intention then to proceed to Stewart Island, and, if weather were unsuitalde for the expedition’s work, to go on to the Chatham Islands or some other isolted groups to the south of New Zealand. The vessel is not equipped with wireless, so that any such change of plan could not be notified. Tho France had, however, been unreported for longer periods on several occasions in the past, and Mrs Beck is certain there is no cause for anxiety.
