PARTIES TO A STRIKE.

EIGHTEEN MEN FINED. AUCKLAND, February 22. Eighteen seamen, firemen, and greasers were charged before Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M., that they were parties to a strike on the Northern Company’s steamer Matangi on January 20. The prosecution was brought by the inspector of awards, who claimed a £lO penalty against each of the defendants, comprising the whole crew except a youth of 17, who the defendants demanded should be put ashore, though he was a financial member of the Seamen’s Union. The captain refused, and the youth, to avoid trouble, took his discharge. Another man was signed on, and the vessel proceeded to sea. In the captain’s opinion two men, M'Guinness and Seaborn, were the ringleaders. M'Guinness, he said, had caused a lot of trouble. The magistrate fined M'Guinness £5, and the rest of the defendants £3 each.
