By the generosity and public spirit of Mrs Clara Sanders, of Russell, a number of relics of her son, the late LieutenantCommander W. E. Sanders, V.C., D. 5.0., R.N.R., have been given into public custody. The collection is now in the care of tho Auckland Museum, but. ns there is no spaco there in which it ran be properly displayed, pending the completion of the War Memorial Museum, it is likely to be housed in tho Auckland Public Library for the time being. The col'eetioo includes Lieutenant-Commander Sanders’s oixiers, decorations, and medals, the statutes conferring tho D. 5.0., personal letters from the King and Earl Jclliooe, various official letters, certificates, and other documents, the bronzo plaque commemorating his death, and two pictures of the Prize, the “mystery shin” in which he performed his exploits. The curator rf the museum, Mr G .Archey, and the chief librarian, Mr John Barr, aro to confer in order to see if arrangements can be made for housing the relics properly in tho library.
