OTAGO LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Land Board, which commenced on Wednesday, was concluded on Thursday. There were present: Messrs R. S. Galbraith (chairman), James Smith, T. A. Munro, and C. J. Inder. The following business was dealt with:— APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. J. W. Blakely, lessee of s.g. run 204 a, Upjjer Taiori district, applied to have p.r. “D ’, containing 11 acres 2 roods, added to

his lease.—lt was decided to add the area to the lease of the small grazing run at an increase in rental of 7s 8d per annum. Application Having been made to purchase sections in the town of Pembroke, the neld inspector suggested that sections 7 to Li and 20 to 2b, block A, 7 to 10, block XXX V r lll, and 1,2, 3, 14, 15, and 16, block XXXViI, be offered for sale by public auction.—Sections to be offered by public auction at upset price of £5 per section. Miss Jessie Mill applied to purchase section 37 block XIV, Lower \\anaka S.D., area 3 acres 0 roods 13 poles.—Granted. Andrew Christian Iversen applied for a renewable lease over section 95, block X, Leaning" Rock district, containing 56 acres 2 roods 4 poles.—Held over for report by field inspector. H. Werner applied to have lease of section 119, block IX, Leaning Rock district, area 35 acres 2 roods 6 poles, issued in the nama of Arthur James Ferris, to whom he had sold his other property.—Lease to be issued to Mr A. J. Ferris. Walter Gibb applied for an occupation lease over section 132, block I, Teviot S.D., area 5 acres 3 roods 25 poles.—Granted at annual rental of 10s. W. A. Collins applied for an occupation lease over section 1, block XLII, town of Dunkeld, area 1 acre 2 roods 19 poles.— Granted at annual rental of 16s. W. T. Dullas applied for a license to occupy section 2. block XVI, Dunedin and East Taieri district (crib site at Brighton), area 1 rood 8 poles.—License from year to year granted at an annual rental of £l. The trustees in the estate of W. Burnett (deceased) applied to purchase section 20, block VIII, Ilillend district, area 6 acres 2 roods 30 polos.—Granted at a capital value of £6 15s. J. K. Brown, licenseo of section 19, block VII, Tuapeka East district, applied for a license over an area of 1$ acres adjoining;.— Area to bo included in license over soction 19 without increase of rent.. An application for a fee-simple over se<v tion 83, Ardgowan Settlement, 11 acres 1 rood 04 poles, was made by John M‘J>owell —Approved. R. C. Read applied for the right to cut flax on mining reservoe in block X, Wai-

tahuna West district. —Granted at royalty of 5s per ton on green flax, and on condi tion that weights are sent in at end of each month. Field-inspector Leonard reported on area totalling about 300 acres in block 11, Shotover district, held under licenses Nos. 1112 and 1672 by Mrs Jane G. Grant.—A new license was granted to Mrs Grant at ,£3 per annum, with cropping right. Philip George applied for a grazing license over part of Naseby Commonage, being part of section 14, block 11, Naseby district, area about 300 acres.—Declined, as the Commonage Committee could not agree to the proposal. The Commissioner submitted for consideration of the board the question whether the grazing license from year to year held bv the committee over Gabriel’s Gully Commonago should not be cancelled.— License cancelled. Waipori Commonage.—Samuel E. Pilling (per Mr It. T. Sadd) applied for a temporary grazing right over about 1000 acres on Waipori Commonage.—Cecil Maunsill Blaekmor© (per Mr Robert C. Moore) applied for a five years’ grazing license over about 1500 acres of land on Waipori Commonage.—A. A. Macdonald applied for part cf Waipori Commonage, the part a<ljoining Commonage Creek.—The three applications were held over pending an inspection by the board. Tho occupation lease over section 178. block I, Waitahuna West, expires on De cember 31 next. Tho board was asked to appoint an appraiser to assess the rental value for new term.—Field Inspector O’Neill was appointed appraiser. Miscellaneous license over part mining reserve, block 111, Tua-peka West, has been lost. An application was made for the issue of a duplicate license. Tho board was asked to deal with the matter.—Duplicate license to be issued. Disbursement of Valuation Money.—The board was asked to authorise the Receiver of Land Rovenue to disburse the sum of £lO, being valuation for improvements on action 9 block 93. town of Oamaru, paid by tho new lessee.—The Land Board's authority was required for tho disbursement of the sum of £32 14s paid as valuation of improvements on section 2 of 22, block 111, Hillend district.—The authority

of the Land Board was required to disburse the sum of £ls paid as valuation for improvements on section 2 of 5, block VI, Hillend district.—The board was requested to authorise the Receiver of Land Revenue to disburse the sum of £3O 8s paid as valuation for improvements on section 2 of 8, block XXXIV. Clutha district. —The Receiver of Land Revenue was authorised to disburse as directed. The lessee of section 9. block 23, town, of Herbert, requested that his year-to-year grazing license be determined.—Tho license was determined. MISCELLANEOUS. Field Inspector Leonard reported that the improvements conditions on the undermentioned holdings were not being comnlied with:—Sections 4 and 5, block IV, LmVer Hawes ; sections 6 and 7. block IV, Lower Bawea; sections 9 10, 12, and 24a, block IV, Lowera Hawea.—Lessee to be requested to effect furthor improvemnta within six months. The lessee of soction 61, block VI, Clarendon. was in arrears with his rent, and the Land Board was asked to declare the leaso forfeited. —Lease declared forfeited. On March 21 the lessee of section 7, Mock VUI. Woodland S.D.. was given notice asking him to show cause why his lease should not be declared forfeited for noncompliance with the conditions of his lease. No reply had been received, and the Land Board was asked to deni with the matter.— field over for one month.; —-The loseo of sections 33a and 66a, Conical Hills Settlement, was in arrears with his rent, and had written stating that he was propared to give up the sections. The board was asked to cleaJ with tho matter.—Lease declared forfeited. The Taieri County Council suggested htat all unlet land from Brighton Domain to Taiori Mouth bridge, between tho road and tho ocean, bo set aside as a scenio reserve.—No further crib sites aro to be granted on this land. Tho board was requested to reconsider it* decision of November 12 last granting a yearly license over section 21, block IX, town of Hull, to James Yorston.—Previous resolution was rescinded.
