GREAT CLYDESDALE STUD DISPERSED.

.From Odb Special Correspondent.) The famous Netherhall stud of Clydesdale horses has been dispersed. The young owner, Mr Andrew M. Montgomery, of Netherhall, Castle Douglas, has decided to settle down in the United States of America, and thus brought to an end a stud that has been in existence in Scotland for fully half a century. The crowd which assembled at Lanark for the sale was the greatest in the history of that great centre of live stock enterprise. Thirty-seven animals of all ages were disposed of at an average of £413 3s 9d, the total sum realised being £15,288. The 20 aged stallions averaged £278 10s 3d. In this section the leading figure was ICOOgns paid for Fyvio Sensation (20042), a horse which has won all the honours open to the breed. He is a grandson of the celebrated Hiawatha out of a Dunure Footprint mother. The great weighty Dunraven (20309) made the fine price of 880gns, and other aged horses made up to 520gns. Ten three-year-olds averaged £731 17s. The great colt Benefactor (20867), a son of Fyvie Sensation out of a mother by Dunure Footprint, was sought after by quite a number of people. The final struggle was between Messrs Templeton, Sandyknowe, Kelso, and Mr James Kilpatrick, of Craigio Mains, Kilmarnock. The former held on to Benefactor until the hammer fell at the magnificent price of 44O0gns. Lethen Sensation, aifother of the sons of Fyvie Sensation out of a Dunure Independence mother, was bought for 13C0gns by Mr John Pollock, Byres Farm, Pollockshaws. Weatheraven, a great, big, handsome colt, made 520gns. The seven two-year-olds averaged £342 15s. In this division the top price was 1400gns given by Messrs R. and J. Chapman. Johnstone Farm, Gartcosh, for Baron’s Eclipse, a son of Dunure Footprint out of a mare by Hiawatha Again, the sire of Fyvie Sensation. This colt w r as the male champion at the last show of the Highland and Agricultural Society. Legality, a son of Craigie Litigant out of a Kismet mother, made 400gns.
