TIIE DERBY COMPETITION. PRIZE WINNERS ANNOUNCED. The prize v'inner 3 in the 1924 Derby Competition have now been determined. It is to be noted that the prizes are not given for the gieotest quantity of butterfat produced, but that they are given to the animals producing the highest percentage of butter-fat over and above their standard yield. The standard yield is 240.51 b fat for a cow that does not exceed the age of two years on the date of her calving, and the standard is increased by o.llb fat for every day she is over that age—e.g., a cow 2 years 274 days of age on her calving date has a standard of 240.51 b. plus 27.41 b, total of 267.91 b fat. The “Derby’’ is for cows under three years of age at date of calving, and only thosb that were specially entered for the event vere taken into consideration when awarding the prizes. Several heifers that were ■ not entered have put up yields of butterfat that could have ensured them a place in the prize-list had they been entered. The prizes are. —First., £200; second, £80; third, £4O; fourth, £24; fifth, £l6, sixth, £l2; seventh, £10; eighth, £8; ninth. £6; tenth, £4. Twenty per cent, of the prize money goes to the breeder of the animal. The following is the prize list:— 1.
