MR DOWNIE STEWART.

PROGRESS OF TREATMENT. WELLINGTON, May 12. In reply to a recent telegram from Sir Francis Bell inquiring as to the Hon. Mr Downie Stewart’s health and the progress that ho was making under specialist treatment in New York Sir Francis has received the following telegram dated May 6 from Mr Downie Stewart: “My treatment is successfully counteracting the poison and has already practically freed tho joints from inflammation, but the temporary effect, is to leave the muscles slack so that I meanwhile walk very badly oven with crutches. This is a normal procedure. I am extremely anxious to pass this stage before leaving for New Zealand. Otherwise I would possibly show no visible improvement on my return. Hence I am wailing until June unless. you require me sooner. I am very optimistic of the ultimate result.”
