RELIEF OF MORTGAGEES. AUCKLAND, May 13. Strapping young farmers with mortgages and debts encumbering their efforts, returned soldiers who were led to undertake responsibilities that have proved burdensome, and others who were carried away in boom time by the tide of investment in land at high prices, and also representatives of money-lending offices and institutions were to be seen in great force at the Supreme Court buildings to-day. The occasion was the Auckland sitting of Mr Justice Hosking’s court for the consideration of applications for the arrival at reasonable mortgage terms under the Mortgages Final Extension Act of the last session of Parliament. The sittings in this city will continue until all the applications filed in the local Supreme Court office have been dealt with. These numbered originally about 2CO, but formal notice was given of withdrawal or settlement in 100 cases.
