The lower part of the Puzzle, especially the right-hand corner, contains some uncommon words. Em is heard many times among printers; affied is the past-participle of affy, an old English word; pend is the verb of which pending is the present-participle. In next week’s issue the solution of No. 3 Competitive Puzzle and the award will be published. Cross-Word Competitive Puzzle No. 4, carrying prizes totalling Five Guineas will also be published in next week’s issue. For the first correct solution opened after midnight on June 5 a prize of Two Guineas will be awarded. The next two successful solvers will each receive One Guinea, and the next two others a Half-guinea each.
