HOSPITAL BOARDS.
A DOMINION ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 30. The North Canterbury Hospital Board has decided to sehd the following remits to the ’ forthcoming conference of hospital boards in Wellington:— The North Canterbury Hospital Board is of the opinion that the time has arrived when a Hospital Boards’ Association uniting all the hospital boards throughout the dominion should be established for the purpose of taking uniform action with regard to important matters of policy, and requests this conference to appoint a sub-committee to draw up proposals for the establishment of such an association and to submit them to a later sitting of the conference for .approval. This conference requests the Minister of Public Health to advise it of the Government's proposals for the effective treatment of venereal diseases in New Zealand, and it urges that legislation giving effect to the recommendations of the Royal . Commission of Inquiry on venereal diseases should be placed on the Statute Book during the present session of Parliament. This conference is of the opinion that the charges for hospital treatment and maternity beds should be uniform throughout the dominion, and it therefore recommends all hospital boards to agree to the following charges: General hospital, 9s per day for adults, 6s 6d per day for children under 14 years of age; maternity cases in country hospitals, a maximum of 12a per day. That the board should advocate the establishment of a ward for observation and treatment of borderline cases.
