A DANGEROUS FORD.
’MASTERTON, July 31. Through fouling a strong current while fording the Waingawa River, James Fouhy, a carting contractor, of Masterton, had a narrow escape from death. Fouhy was carting metal from the- river, and attempted to ford it on the town side through the usual outlet. Three powerful horses were attached to the dray, but the velocity of the current tossed the dray completely over. Fouhy was thrown under, and had it not been for the tailboard being broken his escape would have been impossible, as the dray was securely anchored. The horses Were drowned.
