Friday Afternoon. Business on the Dunedin Stock Exchange lias been fairly brisk this week, and quite a number of transactions have taken place, particularly in Bank of New Zealands, wliich have moved about extensively. Other bank ing lines have changed hands a good deal, too, and a certain amount of business has been done in War Bonds. There has been a noticeable improvement in Bank of Aus tralasias, New Zealands, and Unions, and other similar lines are fairly firm. National Insurances eased off slightly towards the end of the week, but little alteration has taken 'place in other insurance stock. Burns, Philps are wanted at 345, but the latest selling quotation is 365, leaving a margin of 2s, which makes business unlikely under present circumstances. Both issues of Huddart, Barkers are firm, and B. and O. s are weak, while the offer of 20s 4d for Union Steams has not varied. Taupiri Coals are wanted at 18e, and the offer for AV estports is in the vicinity of 375. The ordinary issue of Westport-Stocktons is available at 5s 3d, with buyers offering 2d .ess, while the quotations for the preference issue are the same. Doan and Mercamtiles (ord.) are on offer at £92—a slight decrease —and other loan and agency siiares are practically unaltered. Meat p Deserving lines are quiet. British Tobaccos were procurable during the week at 435, with buyers offering 6d less. Brown, Ewings (ordinary) have improved a little, and Dominion Rubbers are also stronger than they were earlier in the week. There is still a fairly wide margin between the buying and selling quotations, however. The ordinary issue of Kaiapoi Woollens have advanced to a slight degree, and the other issues are firm. The offer for Miibunn Limes and M'Leod Bros.’ Soaps increased slightly during the week, but there was no responding quotation for either. A shilling margin etiii prevents business in National Electrics, which are on offer at 19s 6d. New Zeaiand Drugs, Brewery shares, and both issues of New Zealand Expresses are steady, while Otago Daily Times shares are still in demand at 665. The price of Smith and Smith shares has decreased to 18s 6d, while the offer for Ward's has advanced to 51s 6d without attracting a selling quotation. Wilson’s Cements have also advanced, and a sale was reported on Monday last at 295. Mining shares have been quiet, and Waihis have decreased a little. A decided improvement took place yesterday in the offer for War Bonds, nearly all the 4J per cent, issues being sought at £97 17s 6d. There were no offers to part, however.
