A TIMARU SENSATION.
„ TIMARU, July 25. Something of a sensation was caused in I imam to-day as the result of a report made to the police by a clerk in the National Bank of New Zealand that a burglar had broken into the bank during the early hours of the morning. The clerk in question sleeps on the premises, and on being awakened at 5 a.m. hurried downstairs with his revolver, when a scuffle took place between himself and the intruder. The latler is said to have thrown a chair at the clerk's head, and the chair struck the clerk’s revolver, causing it to go off. The intruder then rushed out by the back door, and the clerk fired at but did not hit him. The man escaped without securing anything. The police are investigating the affair.
