OVER-RIPE ORANGES.
WELLING i ON, July 26 Members of Parliament attended Ihe discharge of oranges from the steamer Ngakuta this morning, the fruit landing in bad condition. It was stated by the master of the ship that the orangees were put aboard at Mangaia and Rarotonga in overripe condition, even for an ordinary passage. As it was, the ship encountered severe weather in the Islands themselves, causing everything to be shut down. At Mangaia severe southerly gales made the ship 48 hours overdue. The holds were ventilated by the hatches all the way, notwithstanding the severity of the weather, and tne stacks were not shifted.
