The rapid growth of the scarlet gum, the mimosa and other trees presentee, to the New Plymouth Beautifying Society aaa been much in excess of their rooting capacity, the result being that in many cases they have succumbed to tne force of the gales which have prevailed this winter. Steps are now being taken to protect the trees by means of Smabcr supports.
