RELIC OF THE WRECK OF THE FIJI. COBEN.—Mr. H. Rohe, of Rive** Book Rouse, on allowing a visitor the coast m tho vicinity of ths "wreck of the Fiji, noticed a lands lip, ead on iavesfcigating discovered a bottle of schnapps intact. Further discoveries unearthed Quite a number of bottle*. The capsule* were corroded* but otherwise the spirit w&m in the bast of condition. Tt is about 50 years since the Fiji was wrecked near Prince townTreasure irwe IT happened nearly half a century ago. The barque “Fiji” bound for Melbourne, ran ashore a few miles west of Cape Otway, and became a total wreck. Included in her cargo was a consignment of Wolfe’s Schnapps, one case of which was hurled ashore by the force of the waves well above high water mark. Here it remained on the lonely beach until the storms of years embedded it completely in the sand. Recently a landslip revealed its hiding place and its history, the fortunate finder making the remarkable and very welcome discovery that the contents had remained proof against Time and the Elements. The “Fiji” has long since vanished from the eyes of men. Of her crew who survived the perils of ship-wreck, few, if any, will have weathered the passage of the years, but Wolfe’s Schnapps is as vital a factor in the Health and Comfort of the community to-day as it was .50 years ago. Time has made just this difference —whereas shipments of a few hundred cases formerly met public requirements, the Demand for “Wolfe’s” has grown to a degree represented by the present-day sales in Australia and New Zealand of over 1,000,000 bottles per annum! The discovery of the lost case makes plain one reason for the perennial popularity of Wolfe’s Schnapps — the unchanging excellence of the contents of every bottle. y'. m AROMATIC SCH OA-.M WOLFE AROWT SCHJfeZ wm
