AUCKLAND, May 14, John Andrew Fox, a taxi-driver, was found guilty of tho manslaughter of Constable Todd on November 14. While returning from Papakura in the early morning, the car collided with a Chinaman’s cart, with the result that the constable was instantly killed. The evidence showed that Todd and the others had been drinking in the city the evening before, and later went out to Papakura, where they had more liquor. They also consumed a quantity in the car during the return trip to town. The jury added a strong recommendation to mercy, holding that the prisoner had been led into the escapade by Todd.
