PEACE
CO-OPERATION NECESSARY - . NEW Y’ORK, May 15. “ Unless Britain and the United States co-operate to forward peace there will be no peace,” said Mr W. M. Hughes, exPrime Minister of Australia, addressing the English-speaking Union of the United States. “ There can be no peace on all this broad globe without the co-operation of the English-speaking peoples in those countries to which Providence has given sovereignty over half the human race. This sovereignty, lacking peace, is but a baseless dream.” A REMARKABLE SACRIFICE. LONDON, May 16. The Daily Express says a remarkable sacrifice has been made in the cause of peace by the British Government, which refused an offer from Baltic interests to buy large quantities of surplus war material. Cabinet, besides vetoing the sale, took a general decision against all such sales. It is understood the sum involved was £10,000,060. The material will be destroyed.
