OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held in the board room on Tuesday, 13th inst. The president (Mr W. 11. Kerens) feelingly referred to the great loss which the association had suffered through the deaths of Mr George Calder and Dr Fulton, who had been esteemed and respected members of the association, and asked the committee to stand as a mark of respect. The following gifts were received, and votes of thanks passed to the donors: —From Mr David Strain (Mosgiel), a framed portrait of his late brother, Mr James Strain, Dunedin, Ajax, 1849; Mr T. Stephens, George street, a pair of leg irons, found on board the old Don Juan at Port Chalmers; Mr James Carmichael (Balfour), a framed portrait of liis late wife and himself (Mr Carmichael, Pladda, 1860, and Mrs Carmichael, Pladda, 1861); Mr J. J. Clark, Union street, framed portraits of his late parents, the Rev. James and Mrs Clark, Palmerston South, Brechin Castle, 1864; Miss Laing (Maori Hill), framed portrait or her late parents, Mr and Mrs David Laing, Halfway Bush, Three Bells, 1858; Mr William Lindsay (Miller’s Flat), a framed portrait of his sisters (Mrs W. L. Craig and Mrs R. Thomson) and himself, Royal -Albert, 1853; Miss Munro (Dunedin), framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs W. Munro (Toiro), Robert Henderson, 1862; Mrs T. T. Ritchie (Mornington), kiwi feather bag, made by Maoris at Rotorua for the lata Miss Ritchie, a visitor from Glasgow. 1900; Mr James Brown (Hope street), bound copy of Jubilee Witness, 1898; Mr R. A. Duthie, two photos of Palmerston South, late seventies; Mr Alexander Kilgour (Broad Bay), a framed portrait of his late parents, Mr and Mrs James Kilgour (Roslyn), Clutha, 1854. The following deaths were reported:—Mrs William Woods, North-East Valley (76), Ethereal, 1864; Mr Henry Wilson, Awarua, (99), Jura, 1858; Mr ‘Allan Roxburgh, Allanton (78), Afboukir, 1865; Mrs John M’Donald, Caversham, late Port Chalmers, Sir E. Paget, 1856; Mr John Loan, Lark worthy street (84), Thorndean, 1867; Mr Ben. R. Pledger, York place (86), Oscar, 1861 : Mrs James Orr, Dunedin, Silistria, 1860; Mr D. Scrymgeour. Mornington (68), Pladda, I 860; Mr Peter Carmichael, Christchurch, late Otago Peninsula (95), arrived 1861; Mrs John Wallace, Orepuki (68), arrived 1861; Mr George Calder, North-East Valley (78), Mariner, 1849: Dr Fulton, Pitt street (58), father Ajax, 1849; Mrs G.
