The Jains of India, a herterodox sect of Hindus, are considered to be the champion fasters of the world. They fast as part of their religion, and amongst them fasts of thirty, forty, and fifty days at a time are considered nothing out of the way, but only as an ordinary part of their worship. Football was invented by the Chinese many hundred years ago. This game was cultivated as an exercise suhable for the training of soldiers. It was introduced into Japan, where it became very popular. From these two countries it spread over the entire world.
