SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.

CHRISTCHURCH, May 12. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court were opened to-day before Mr Justice Adams. The calendar is a light one, with the exception of the ringing-in cases, which will be started to-morrow. A stay of proceedings was entered in the case against Charles Henry Augustus Jones, who was charged with unlawful carnal knowledge, as he had since married the girl. He was remanded however, for sentence, for making a false declaration under the Marriage Act. Lionel Irving was acquitted on a charge of indecent exposure Wilfred Roland Wildey was acquitted on a charge of breaking and entering and theft. His Honor, when discharging him, said he was a very fortunate man. John O’Brien was found guilty of the theft of a suitcase containing clothing valued at. £3. with a recommendation to mercy on account of his age. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 14. In the Supreme Court this afternoon Mr Justice MacGregor passed sentence upon three youths who had pleaded guilty to four charges of breaking, and entering, and theft. They were John Innes, aged 18, John Stephen Keekan, aged 17, and John Main, aged 17. His Honor said that he could not grant probation, and he ordered that the accused should come up for sentence if called upon within the next two years.
