A very rare bird was shot by a sportsman on the Wairarapa Lake a few days ago—namely, a white heron (says tho AN airarapa Times). Even in Maori days the Kotulcu was so rare that tho Maori considered its appearance in the nature of an omen. Tt is illegal to destroy the Kotuku, and it is understood that proceedings are likoly to follow as a result.
