RISE TO FORTUNE
COMPOSITOR TO MILLIONAIRE. LONDON, July 19. Mr Richard E. Jones, head of tha famous firm of Welsh caterers, collapsed at the surgery door when visiting his doctor at Porth-cawl and died. He was <9 years of age. Forty years ago Mr Jones was a compositor on the Western’ Mail at Cardiff, and finding it difficult to get a drink of tea during the midnight break he opened a teashop, where he sold tea at a halfpenny a cup. He fetched the water and made and served the tea himself. He met with such success that he opened branches until the capital of his firm amounted to £1,700,000. The company also owns the Picadilly Hotel, the Manchester Hotel, and other large premise* in London and Wales.
