TAPANUI POULTRY SHOW.

The thirty-fifth annual show, held by the Tapanui Poultry and Produce Club on Saturday, 14th, was favoured with fine weather, and a most successful show resulted. Poultry entries were about the same as last year, and made a very creditable display. This section was judged by Mr Tracey King, an old resident of Tapanui, and now of Riverton, who remarked that some very nice birds were shown, although many showed the effects of the weather. Minorcas were the best class in the show, and included some typical birds, the cockerels being specially mentioned, and provided the best local bird in the show’. White Leghorns and Houdans were fair, and Black Orpingtons were a strong class, slightly lacking in polish. The White Leghorn pullet gained the South Island Poultry and Pigeon Association’s championship. White Wyandottes w T ere described by the judge as exceptionally good. There was a fair collection of ducks and children’s pets. Some splendid samples of grain and seeds w-ero shown, and turnips made a very creditable display, but the season has been against roots, and in many parts the are under snow or frozen in the ground. \ egetables were a really creditable collection, and Mr D. Martin (Beaumont) had a show of apples that was greatly admired. They were grown to perfection and included an enormous number of named varieties. Messrs J .J. Perry and H. Shelton (Gore) judged the grain and seeds; Mr A. Newman (Gore) the vegetables; and Messrs J. Black (Tapanui) and M. Ferguson (Crookston) the turnips. Tho show was well managed, under the personal supervision. of Air M. M'Auley (president), while Mr A. Munyard has continued to do good work in his old position of secretary. The committee all worked well for the success of the show. The attendance, both afternoon and evening, was good, and an excellent musical programme was provided by the Brass Band and Rundle’s Orchestra.
