June 14.—After a week's hard frost, there wa3 a break in the weather on Sunday, and Since then it has been extremely mild for this time of year. Ladies’ Hockey.—The first match of the season was played at Arrow-town on Saturday last, when the Senior teams of the Queenstown and Arrcwtown Clubs met. The day was fine, blit owing to recent frosts the ground was slippery. A well-contested game resulted in a win for Arrow by four goals to two. i Mrs Douglas and Mr W. H. .Nelson acted as referees. Dunedin Winter Show. —At the Dunedin "Winter Show tlirce prizes for Chevalier barley were aw aided to Lower Shotover exhibitors —viz., Mr Thomas Houston, who gain.ad first and second prizes, and Mr J. G. Allan, who secured third prize. Mr A. Jockway3, manager of th e Lake County Dairy Factory, lias received many congratulations for securing second prize for cheese in the class for cheese manulaotured from non-pastcurised milk. Eleven factories competed and the Lake County exhibit was only half a point behind Milton, which secured first prize. Deaths.—The death occurred at Cromwell on Mcnday last of Mr John Duncan, who was well known in this district. He came to Lake County about 30 years ago, and was for some time engaged in farm work. He then removed to Alexandra, where he resided for many years. He subsequently returned to Arrcwtown, where he started a hoot-repairing business. About nine months ago he removed to Cromwell. He had been in ill-health for some time. He leaves u widow and daughter to mourn their loss. — The death occurred at Christchurch lastweek of Mr diaries ,E Robins, who was for several years licensee of the Ballarat Hotel, Arrow town. Since Iris departure from thi3 district in 1916 he had losided at Methven (Canterbury). He was 45 years of age, and leaves a widow and family of three to mourn their loss.
