PERSIAN EARTHQUAKE
APPALLING DEATH ROLL. DELHI, June 5
Persian advices state that Turltatihaldari has been completely deserted bv the inhabitants since the earthquake, owing to tile unsafe condition of the buildings. The Governor is directing relief work. Forty-five lives were lost there. The hulk of the inhabitants were warned by two previous severe shocks, and left prior to the final disastrous quake, which, also wrecked the surrounding villages. The earthquake travelled from west to east, and caused extensive damage over a wide area. The village of IJazasurks was apparently the centre of the disturbance. Practically the whole of its 500 houses were destroyed. Many residents perished. Altogether it is estimated that between 3000 and 4000 people were killed in various places, but as the Mullahs have decreed that no more bodies are to be dug out of the ruins the exact figures are not ascertainable.
