WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 8. Hauke’s Bay trainers, Stuart Waddell and J. Sullivan, who are at present holidaymaking, will leave Sydney on Monday, for Wellington, by the Marama. It is reported that an offer of 200Cgs for Loughrea, met with no response from his owner. The Otaki Maori Racing Club came through their winter meeting very well. On the first day rain fell just before the first race, but it kept fine afterwards. A lot of rain fell on Sunday and the course and enclosures were in a terrible state on the second day. Tame Fox was the hero of the meeting. He was beaten in the Ruakawa. Cup, and won the Huia Handicap on the second day. He has been placed three years in the Cup, and won the Huia Handicap three years in succession. He was the only member of F. Tilley's team to compete at the meeting. M. McCarton rode four winners and increased his total to 46. Militaire struggled into third place on the opening day with 12.2. but on the second day was allowed to forfeit. First Born (Thumham-Alicia). had only 9st on tiio opening day. but 10.2 did not stop him on the second day. He. is owned by Mr J. B. Gaisford, being purchased at his brother's clearing sale in March for 225gns. First Born is only four years old. The En Route, Tigerland boom burst at Ellerslie. En Route fell in the big hurdles and H. McSweeney fractured his nose. With the assistance of R. S. Bagby, Kohu ran a much lietter race than at Wanganui. Denny Donovan, who owns Kohu, is at present on a holiday visit to the Old Country. D. Kemp, the Hastings trainer, won a double each day at Otaki with Megan and Patuki. Both are by Solferino, and were purchased the same clay by Kemp at the Christchurch yearling sales. Another double winner was Equador (Santa Rosa— Date), who hails from Hawera. Mireusonla heat Solfanello in the Taipua Handicap on the opening day, but the rider of the first named failed to draw the weight and the Trentham horse got it. Mireusonta is owned by Mr R. A. McKenzie, a steward of the Manawatu Racing Club, who took it very well.

Santonio (San Fran —Dolly Fisher), who won the open sprint race on the concluding day, is trained by A. Oliver. The surprise in the Great Northern Steeplechase was the forward running ox the Blenheim representative, Dick, who may have improved with the trip to Australia.

The well known brood mare, La Notte, who was 25 years old, was destroyed recently. She was the dam of Nightfall, Noctuiform, Midnights Sun, Moonbria, Blackball and other performers.
