“He is one of those men who took up land at n absurd value," remarked the chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) at the Supreme Court at Wellington last Monday during the hearing of an application by a returned soldier for discharge from bankruptcy. “It is amazing to me that there have been so few bankruptcies, considering the land gambling—for it was nothing else —that went on from 1917 to 1922.”
