THE ELLIS OUTRAGE. DELHI, May 8
The frontier authorities are taking steps to exact full retribution for the Ellis outrage in which native raiders murdered the wife of Major Ellis and carried away his 15-year-old daughter. A gathering of the whole of the Afridi and Orakzai tribes has been sum moned to deal with the position. Soon after the release of Miss Ellis a force of At'ridis burnt the houses of the gang responsible for the outrage. The maraudBritish residents of Mesopotamia. RIOTING IN AMRITSAR. DELHI, May'll. More rioting occurred at Amritsar, also incendiarism. Fifty were wounded. Many arrests were made and the municipality has asked for extra police. The doubled salt tax remains the most prominent political problem. Several members of the Legislatures have resigned since the Viceroy’s Certification. The democratic party apealed to the Viceroy to call a special session of the Legislatures to pass a resolution asking his Majesty in Council to disallow the doubled salt tax. The Viceroy refused the request.
