Empire Day will be celebrated on Monday. June 4, 1923, in conjunction with the anniversary of t.he birthday of his Majesty the King, and that day will be observed as a public holiday in the Government offices throughout the dominion. A painful accident happened to Mr Alex. Thompson, Orepuki last week (reports the Southland Daily News). While resting a loaded rifle mui zle downwards on his foot the weapon was accidentally discharged, the bullet penetrating his boot and lodging in one of his toes. The victim was motored to the Wallace Hospital, where Dr Trotter extracted the missile.
