NEW ZEALAND REQUESTS DECLINED. PERTH, May 7. At the annual interstate rowing conference, New South Wales submitted a motion out o£ courtesy to New Zealand to allow the dominion to compete in interstate races. This was defeated on the ground that the whole strength of the dominion would bo pitted against the individual States. A request on behalf of New Zealand for the Australian championship to be rowed every two years alternately in New Zealand end Australia rvas rejected, but the conference decided that the location of any future races should be left in the hands of the proposed board of management which is to control rowing in Australia THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. PERTH, May 7. The inter-State eight-oared race took place on the Swan River for the first time since 190 C, and resulted: South Australia 1, West Australia 2, Victoria 3. After a hard fight South Australia won by half a length. Time, 17min 31sec. The sculling championship resulted:—Bull (New South Wales) 1, Bradley (Tasmania) 2, M'Gorm (Victoria) 3. The Ladies’ Fours was won by South Australia, with Tasmania second, and Victoria third. These were the only starters. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held on the 7th inst., Mr It. Conn occupying the chair, and there being also present: Messrs Rutherford, Howes, Reid, Long, Williams, Baker, Akim, Stewart, Holmes, and King. The Angling Committee reported the receipt of a communication from the Hon. G. J. Anderson, notifying the extension of the quinnat salmon season in certain rivers. It was recommended that a reply be sent to the Marine Department that the society was opposed to the suggestion that the minimum size for taking trout be increased from 9ln to llin or 12in. The Southland Society had written stating that it was forgoing its claim in regard to the collection and distribution of Atlantic salmon ova, the communication having been received. The Chief Inspector of Fisheries and Game, Melbourne, had written stating that he was sending another shipment of shrimps by the Moerakj. The Bruce Angling Club wrote asking the assistance of the society in putting a, stop to netting of the mouth of the Tokoma.iriro River. The letter had been received, and a petition forwarded. An order had been received from the Buller Society for 50,000 rainbow trout eyed ova.—The report was adopted, it being emphasised* that the council did not approve of increasing the lengths of Likeable trout. The Game Committee reported the receipt of a letter from the Department of Internal Affairs'stating that an open season for paradise duck and pukeko from Mav 1 to May 14 had been declared. Further communications had been received from the same source enclosing Gazette notices for the game shooting season in various acclimatisation districts; also regarding the
